design process
site survey
After the initial contact it is important for me to make a site visit
not only to assess the garden's suitability for your requirements and
expectations but to get a feel for your taste and lifestyle needs. It
is after all your garden and in order to create a concept scheme then
I pay particular attention to your wishes.
concept
At the concept stage I will usually make several draught design suggestions
which can then be adjusted until you are completely happy with the final
design.
In order to produce a fully measured hard landscaping design then a
detailed site survey and inventory of existing plants etc. would enable
a scaled set of drawings to be prepared. This would include soil sampling
and photographic recording of the site. The size of the garden will influence
whether an electronic survey would be required. All costs would be submitted
for approval prior to carrying out any work.
The site survey can also provide the necessary information for the subsequent
preparation of a detailed planting plan.
Throughout the process, you will be regularly consulted and informed
of progress before moving on to the next stage.
landscaping and planting
I work with Cumbrian Property Services Limited who carry out the hard
landscaping aspect of the project. They are a fully insured and experienced
team.
As far as possible all plants are sourced locally in order to ensure
they can withstand the Cumbrian weather. A concerted effort is also made
to use local materials and specialist labour skills when required.
Where necessary I will co-ordinate other contractors for specialised
work - for example, live woven willow structures, cleft oak features
and stone sculptures.
